Venue or host area: Eight sites across the historic centre rather than one square: Place Broglie, the cathedral square, Place Kléber with the giant tree, Place Gutenberg, Place Benjamin-Zix in Petite France and the Carré d'Or among them.
Access: All eight market sites are free to enter and unticketed. Food, drink and purchases are paid individually, and some attractions such as the ice rink charge separately. No 2027 dates, tickets or prices were published.
02 · Plan the visit
Plan around the official access route
Strasbourg's centre is compact and best walked; the tram network serves the edges of the pedestrian zone. The official 2026 pages give 27 November–24 December but disagree on the opening day, so confirm the 2026 arrangement before using it as a pattern for 2027. December here is cold and the Alsatian market is spread out enough that you will walk several kilometres.
Confirm the edition: use the organiser’s latest date and venue announcement, not only a customary month.
Confirm admission: check whether access is by purchase, ballot, qualification, application or free/public entry; do not assume a ticket includes every venue or session.
Confirm local logistics: check current transport, accessibility, road closures and arrival instructions with the organiser and relevant local authority.
Protect flexibility: compare cancellation terms before booking travel around a date or route that is not fully confirmed.

Getting to Strasbourg
The capital of Alsace sits on the Rhine facing Germany, with a pedestrian island of canals and a cathedral at its centre.
Connections, terminals and transfer arrangements change — confirm them with the airline and the organiser rather than planning around a fixed transfer time.

04 · Overview
What this event is
The Christkindelsmärik, spread across eight sites in Strasbourg's historic centre rather than one square, running through Advent to Christmas Eve. Place Broglie holds the main market, with others at the cathedral, Place du Château, Place Kléber and in the Petite France district, and each has a slightly different character — crafts, food, or children's activities.

Why it matters
Strasbourg calls itself the capital of Christmas, and its market is the oldest in France: the city's position on the Rhine gives it a German-inflected Christmas culture — vin chaud, bredele biscuits, wooden toys and fir wreaths — with French administration and a genuinely bilingual programme. The multiple sites mean the market is dispersed through the old town rather than concentrated.
History
The Christkindelsmärik was first held in 1570, when the city moved its St Nicholas market to the cathedral square and renamed it for the Christ Child. It has run annually since, apart from wartime interruptions, and the modern event now spreads across eight sites with a programme that includes concerts and a Christmas tree on Place Kléber.

2027 site-by-site hours, the giant tree lighting and event programme were not published.
Accessibility arrangements for 2027 — the 2026 map and equipment loans are prior-edition detail — were not confirmed.
