Venue or host area: Naeba Ski Resort in Yuzawa, Niigata Prefecture, a mountain site with stages spread across slopes and a boardwalk between them. The marker shows the resort town, not a stage or campsite.
Access: Entry is by festival ticket, with camping and shuttle packages sold as separate products in previous years. The 2027 dates are announced but prices, sale dates and ticket types had not been published at review.
02 · Plan the visit
Plan around the official access route
Access is by shuttle from Echigo-Yuzawa station on the Joetsu Shinkansen, with the transfer sold as part of the festival's travel arrangements; the site is a ski resort in summer, so the terrain is steep and the weather changeable. Camping is on the mountain and sells separately. Rain is common even in late July, and the walk between the main stages crosses a suspension bridge that becomes a bottleneck at headline times.
Confirm the edition: use the organiser’s latest date and venue announcement, not only a customary month.
Confirm admission: check whether access is by purchase, ballot, qualification, application or free/public entry; do not assume a ticket includes every venue or session.
Confirm local logistics: check current transport, accessibility, road closures and arrival instructions with the organiser and relevant local authority.
Protect flexibility: compare cancellation terms before booking travel around a date or route that is not fully confirmed.

04 · Overview
What this event is
A three-day music festival at the Naeba Ski Resort in Niigata, Japan, held in late July across a mountainside site reached by gondola and shuttle bus. The main Green Stage sits at the bottom of the slope, with the White Stage, Red Marquee and smaller areas up the mountain, and most visitors camp or stay in the surrounding resort hotels.

Why it matters
Fuji Rock is Asia's best-known festival and the one with the most unusual setting: stages sit on a ski slope, the site is reached by gondola, and the weather — rain, mud and heat in the same weekend — is part of its reputation. It is also famously clean, with a culture of carrying rubbish home and a site that is returned to the mountain in better condition than it was found.
History
The first Fuji Rock was held in 1997 at a different site and was hit by a typhoon; it moved to Naeba in 1999 and has been held there every year since. The festival has grown from a single main stage to a multi-stage site with camping, and the 2027 edition is the 30th, still organised by Smash.
