Protect flexibility: compare cancellation terms before booking travel around a date or route that is not fully confirmed.

04 · Overview
What this event is
The middle leg of the American Triple Crown, a Grade I race for three-year-olds over 1 3/16 miles at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore. The 2027 edition is scheduled for Sunday 23 May, two weeks after the Derby, while the grandstand is being rebuilt.
The Preakness is the shortest of the three Triple Crown races and the one that decides whether a Derby winner can still take the series — the two-week gap makes recovery as much a part of the test as speed. Its infield party is as much a fixture as the race, and the winner's blanket of Black-Eyed Susans is the state flower of Maryland.
History
The Preakness was first run in 1873 at Pimlico, two years before the Kentucky Derby, and is named after a horse that won at Pimlico the year before. It has been run at Pimlico almost every year since, with brief moves to Morris Park and Laurel Park, and it has been the second leg of the Triple Crown since that series was defined in the 1930s. The 2027 running coincides with a rebuild of the Pimlico grandstand.
