How to plan for Belmont Stakes

The 159th Belmont Stakes is scheduled for Saturday 5 June 2027 at Belmont Park, Elmont, New York; NYRA lists a three-day festival from 3–5 June. The rebuilt venue reopened for racing in September 2026.

01 · Event details

Edition and venue

Timing: 3–5 June 2027 festival · Belmont Stakes on Saturday 5 June

Venue or host area: Belmont Park, Elmont, New York. NYRA lists the 2027 festival dates and has announced the return to Belmont Park; venue reconstruction and final event-day operations should be rechecked before travel.

Access: NYRA’s 2027 ticket page lists direct-sale ticket products. No remaining inventory or completed checkout was verified. The event’s 2027 visitor guide says further operational information will be posted later, so do not assume that general venue guidance supplies event-day access details.

02 · Plan the visit

Plan around the official access route

NYRA’s 2027 ticket page listed direct ticket sales, including general-admission, reserved and hospitality options; this is not a live inventory count. The official 2027 visitor guide says detailed event information will be posted later. NYRA’s general venue page lists LIRR and bus options, but these are venue-level information, not a confirmed 2027 event-day service plan.

  • Confirm the edition: use the organiser’s latest date and venue announcement, not only a customary month.
  • Confirm admission: check whether access is by purchase, ballot, qualification, application or free/public entry; do not assume a ticket includes every venue or session.
  • Confirm local logistics: check current transport, accessibility, road closures and arrival instructions with the organiser and relevant local authority.
  • Protect flexibility: compare cancellation terms before booking travel around a date or route that is not fully confirmed.

Getting to New York City

  • LaGuardia Airport LGA

Connections, terminals and transfer arrangements change — confirm them with the airline and the organiser rather than planning around a fixed transfer time.

04 · Overview

What this event is

The final leg of the American Triple Crown, run over 1½ miles — the longest of the three — at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. The 2027 running is on Saturday 5 June, part of a three-day festival at the rebuilt track.

Why it matters

The Belmont is called the Test of the Champion because of its distance: it is the only American Grade I race at 1½ miles on dirt, and it is where Triple Crown bids are usually settled. The sweeping far turn — the longest stretch of any American track — is where front-runners are caught or escape, and the crowd noise at the top of the stretch is the loudest in American racing.

History

The first Belmont Stakes was run in 1867, making it the oldest of the three Triple Crown races, and it has been held at Belmont Park since 1905 apart from rebuilding periods. The race moved temporarily to Saratoga while Belmont's grandstand was replaced, and the 2027 edition is the 159th. Its distance has varied over the years, settling at 1½ miles in 1926.

What we could not verify

  • The 2027 event guide had not yet published final gates, parking, transit or venue operations details.
  • NYRA’s September 2026 construction update expected some grandstand floors to finish in Q1 2027; no later completion confirmation was found in the pages reviewed.
  • The 2010 archival race photo predates the current Belmont rebuild and does not depict the 2027 venue configuration; current accessibility and entry rules should be confirmed with NYRA.
