01 · Event details

Edition and venue

Timing: 28 July–1 August 2027 · practice day 28 July; championship play 29 July–1 August

Venue or host area: Royal St George’s Golf Club, Sandwich, Kent, England. The event’s 2027 key-information page publishes the dates and host; it says more visitor travel information will be added later.

Access: No ballot was advertised. The event-specific 2027 ticket portal marked visible standard products sold out, while the organizer’s key-information article, dated 12 October 2026, still said tickets were on sale. Premium-experience registration is an interest list, not a ticket. Live inventory is therefore unverified; use the event-specific portal and organizer updates.

02 · Plan the visit

Plan around the official access route

The published route is direct ticket purchase; no ballot process was advertised on the pages reviewed. The event-specific 2027 ticket page marked visible standard products sold out, while the organizer’s key-information article, dated 12 October 2026, still said tickets were on sale. Premium experiences were listed as coming soon/interest registration, which is not a ticket purchase. Because official pages conflict, do not infer current inventory; recheck the event-specific ticket portal.

  • Confirm the edition: use the organiser’s latest date and venue announcement, not only a customary month.
  • Confirm admission: check whether access is by purchase, ballot, qualification, application or free/public entry; do not assume a ticket includes every venue or session.
  • Confirm local logistics: check current transport, accessibility, road closures and arrival instructions with the organiser and relevant local authority.
  • Protect flexibility: compare cancellation terms before booking travel around a date or route that is not fully confirmed.

04 · Overview

What this event is

The Women's British Open, played over four rounds on a links course in late July or early August, with a field drawn from the world rankings, qualifying series and national championships. The 2027 edition is at Royal St George's in Kent, one of the Open rota courses.

Why it matters

It is the only women's major played on links turf, which makes wind, bounce and run part of the test in a way the other four do not. Because the R&A runs it on the same rota as the men's Open, the venues are the sport's historic courses rather than purpose-built resort layouts, and the championship has become the one where the best players are tested in conditions they rarely face elsewhere.

History

The championship began in 1976 as the Women's British Open and was elevated to major status in 2001, when it also joined the LPGA and Ladies European Tour schedules as a fifth major. The R&A took over its organisation in 2017, bringing it into the same structure as the men's Open, and it has since been played at St Andrews, Carnoustie, Turnberry and Royal St George's.
