01 · Event details

Edition and venue

Timing: F1 weekend: 2–4 July 2027 · Silverstone public event: 1–4 July

Venue or host area: Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire, England. The map marker is a regional locator, not an entrance or parking location.

Access: Silverstone's official event page lists 2027 tickets and packages. Availability and what each ticket includes vary by product; check the live listing and current terms before booking.

02 · Plan the visit

Plan around the official access route

Silverstone publishes event-specific coach, rail, shuttle and parking information. Use the 2027 getting-here page for the latest services and road controls; a previous year's shuttle timetable or parking map is not a 2027 plan.

  • Confirm the edition: use the organiser’s latest date and venue announcement, not only a customary month.
  • Confirm admission: check whether access is by purchase, ballot, qualification, application or free/public entry; do not assume a ticket includes every venue or session.
  • Confirm local logistics: check current transport, accessibility, road closures and arrival instructions with the organiser and relevant local authority.
  • Protect flexibility: compare cancellation terms before booking travel around a date or route that is not fully confirmed.

04 · Overview

What this event is

The British Grand Prix at Silverstone, a former bomber airfield in Northamptonshire, run over a weekend in early July. The circuit is built on the perimeter roads and runways of the wartime base, and its opening sequence — Copse, Maggotts, Becketts and Chapel — is a flat-out direction change that most drivers name as the best stretch of corners in the sport.

Why it matters

Silverstone hosted the first ever Formula 1 world championship race, on 13 May 1950, and most of the teams are based within an hour of it, which is what makes it the sport's home round. It is also the biggest attendance of the year: the crowd is measured in the hundreds of thousands across the weekend, and the campsites around the circuit turn race week into a festival. The circuit's ownership by the British Racing Drivers' Club is unusual in a sport where most tracks are state- or promoter-owned.

History

The British Grand Prix dates from 1926 at Brooklands. After the war it moved between Silverstone, Aintree and Brands Hatch before settling at Silverstone permanently from 1987. The airfield opened in 1943 as a bomber station, and the runways still define the shape of the track — the Wellington bomber hangars stood where the paddock is now. The circuit was substantially rebuilt in 1991 and again in 2010, when the new pit and paddock complex moved to the old start line.
