The Mardi Gras New Orleans schedule lists Fat Tuesday as 9 February 2027 and posts a tentative parade calendar. It identifies the krewes’ usual routes, not a guarantee of the final 2027 street plan; follow city notices when route and closure orders are issued.

Venue or host area: Parades use different routes and neighbourhoods across New Orleans. The event schedule’s route links are labelled as usual routes; they are useful for broad orientation, not confirmed 2027 detours, viewing zones or street closures.
Access: The Mardi Gras New Orleans FAQ describes parade viewing as free. Paid grandstand products are separate and apply only to the named stand or event; their availability and terms can change. Do not assume a stand ticket covers another parade route or viewing area.
02 · Plan the visit
Plan around the official access route
The visitor FAQ says street parades are free to watch; optional grandstand seating is sold separately for named viewing locations. The current parade-ticket page lists specific grandstand products, but a seat is not a ticket to the public parade as a whole. Use NOLA Ready’s current along-the-route rules and check the City’s 2027 traffic and public-safety notices before choosing a viewing point or transit plan.
Confirm the edition: use the organiser’s latest date and venue announcement, not only a customary month.
Confirm admission: check whether access is by purchase, ballot, qualification, application or free/public entry; do not assume a ticket includes every venue or session.
Confirm local logistics: check current transport, accessibility, road closures and arrival instructions with the organiser and relevant local authority.
Protect flexibility: compare cancellation terms before booking travel around a date or route that is not fully confirmed.

04 · Overview
What this event is
New Orleans' carnival season, which opens on Twelfth Night, 6 January, and runs to Mardi Gras Day, with parades staged by private krewes across the city in the final two weeks. Krewes pay for their own floats, bands and throws, riders buy their places on a float, and the season ends with the Zulu and Rex parades on Fat Tuesday.
New Orleans Mardi Gras is the American carnival and the one built on private associations rather than a single organiser: the krewes are social clubs, some dating from the 19th century, and their balls and parades are membership events that the public watches. The Mardi Gras Indians — Black masking gangs in hand-beaded suits — are a separate tradition that parades on its own schedule and is one of the most distinctive folk arts in the United States.
History
New Orleans has paraded for Mardi Gras since the 1830s, and the first krewe organisation, the Mistick Krewe of Comus, was formed in 1857. Rex, the krewe that effectively runs the day, dates from 1872, and the Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club began parading in 1916. The season was cancelled in 2021 because of the pandemic, the first break in decades.
