How to plan for Barranquilla Carnival 2027

The organizer’s page lists Carnival for 6–9 February 2027, with major parade events on 6–8 February and several named activities. Its Tuesday 9 February item is still marked “a confirmar” (to be confirmed), so the overall date window is published but not every programme detail is final.

01 · Event details

Edition and venue

Timing: 6–9 February 2027 · major events listed; one Tuesday programme item remains to be confirmed

Venue or host area: The 2027 programme names Vía 40 for major parade events and Carrera 50 for Baila la Calle. These are event-specific locations, not a complete 2027 route or transport map; the city marker is approximate orientation only.

Access: The official 2027 programme names parade and music events, but does not say that one pass covers the full festival. The separate 2027 partner portfolio is for commercial sponsorship packages, not public admission. No public ticket inventory, price or sold-out status is inferred.

02 · Plan the visit

Plan around the official access route

The organizer’s 2027 page describes the programme but does not establish one admission rule for all parades, concerts and viewing areas. A separate Carnaval partner portal explains that its 2027 portfolio is commercial sponsorship inventory, not public visitor tickets. No verified 2027 road-closure, public-transport, accessible-viewing or route operations plan was found; Barranquilla’s 2026 traffic notice is historical context only and was WAF-blocked in the browser.

  • Confirm the edition: use the organiser’s latest date and venue announcement, not only a customary month.
  • Confirm admission: check whether access is by purchase, ballot, qualification, application or free/public entry; do not assume a ticket includes every venue or session.
  • Confirm local logistics: check current transport, accessibility, road closures and arrival instructions with the organiser and relevant local authority.
  • Protect flexibility: compare cancellation terms before booking travel around a date or route that is not fully confirmed.

The venue

The 2027 programme names Vía 40 for major parade events and Carrera 50 for Baila la Calle. These are event-specific locations, not a complete 2027 route or transport map; the city marker is approximate orientation only.

The catalogue marker shows Barranquilla, Colombia · 6–9 February 2027; one Tuesday listing pending at city or region level only — it is not an entrance, a gate, a course or a transfer route. For the event’s position among its category peers, open the Carnival & street overview and map.

04 · Overview

What this event is

Colombia's largest carnival, held over four days before Ash Wednesday, with a Battle of the Flowers parade, a Grand Parade, a masquerade night and Afro-Caribbean dance traditions such as the cumbiamba, the son de negro and the garabato. The parades run along the Vía 40 and through the city's neighbourhoods, and the whole city effectively stops for the week.

Why it matters

Barranquilla is the carnival of Colombia's Caribbean coast, and UNESCO recognised it as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2003. It is a public, citywide event — the parades are free to watch, the neighbourhood celebrations are organised by local groups, and the music and dance forms it carries are specific to the region rather than imported.

History

Barranquilla's carnival took shape in the 19th century from the city's Caribbean, indigenous and European immigrant traditions, and was formalised with organised parades in the early 20th century. The UNESCO proclamation in 2003 made it Colombia's best-known intangible heritage event, and the modern programme runs four days with a published schedule of parades and verbenas.

What we could not verify

  • The Tuesday programme item remains marked “a confirmar”; event-by-event times and access terms may be updated.
  • No complete 2027 route/closure plan, transport service notice, accessible viewing guide or crowd-management plan was verified.
  • The city traffic notice located during research concerns the 2026 edition and returned a Cloudflare block in the browser; it is not evidence of 2027 operations.
