How to plan for Alba White Truffle Fair

The Alba White Truffle Fair has not published 2027 dates; the 2026 fair ran from 10 October to 6 December, and the truffle season itself is weather-dependent. One industry calendar lists an October–December 2027 window, which the fair's own site does not yet confirm.

01 · Event details

Edition and venue

Timing: 2027 dates not yet published · 2026 fair ran 10 October–6 December

Venue or host area: Alba in the Langhe, with the main fair spaces in the historic centre and the truffle market at the Cortile della Maddalena; the surrounding hills are where the truffles are actually hunted.

Access: The fair has historically charged entry on some days and operated a separate ticketed area for tastings; nothing for 2027 was published. No price, ticket channel or inventory is claimed here.

02 · Plan the visit

Plan around the official access route

Alba is reachable by train from Turin and by road from Milan, but the town's hotels fill for the autumn weekends and the fair is a weekend event rather than a continuous one. The 2026 fair ran from 10 October to 6 December, and the truffle season itself depends on rain and temperature — a late, dry autumn produces a thin market. No 2027 dates or ticket terms were published at review.

  • Confirm the edition: use the organiser’s latest date and venue announcement, not only a customary month.
  • Confirm admission: check whether access is by purchase, ballot, qualification, application or free/public entry; do not assume a ticket includes every venue or session.
  • Confirm local logistics: check current transport, accessibility, road closures and arrival instructions with the organiser and relevant local authority.
  • Protect flexibility: compare cancellation terms before booking travel around a date or route that is not fully confirmed.

04 · Overview

What this event is

An autumn fair in Alba, in the Langhe hills of Piedmont, centred on the white truffle (Tuber magnatum) sold, weighed and eaten across the town's markets and restaurants. The fair runs across weekends from October into December, with a truffle market, a food and wine programme, and an auction that draws international buyers.

Why it matters

Alba is the world capital of the white truffle, the most expensive food ingredient by weight, and the fair is where the season's market sets its tone. The truffles are hunted with dogs in the surrounding woods and cannot be cultivated — the symbiosis with hazel and oak roots has never been reproduced commercially — which is why the fair is tied to one landscape and its weather.

History

The Fiera Internazionale del Tartufo Bianco d'Alba has been held since 1929, when the town staged its first truffle market to promote the local harvest. It has grown into a month-long programme with the world truffle auction, the Palio degli Asini — a donkey race between the town's districts — and a food culture that has made the Langhe a UNESCO-listed wine landscape.
